The Original Neville Brother
Art Neville was born December 17, 1937 in New Orleans Louisiana to parents Amelia and Arthur Neville Sr. He passed away July 22, 2019 after years of declining health. He was proceeded in death by his brother Charles Neville. He is survived by his wife Lorraine daughter Amelia sons Arthel and Ian: brothers Aaron and Cyril sister Athelgra.
Born into a musical family Neville began playing the piano at a young age. His brother Aaron was a vocalist. Brother Cyril handled the percussion and vocals and brother Charles was a saxophonist.
After serving the Navy Neville returned to music in the early 1960s. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s Art Neville participated in several musical lineups. Then in 1978 Art and his brothers Aaron, Cyril and Charles formed the musical group The Neville Brothers. The Neville Brother’s 1989 song Healing Chant won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
