Memorial of Aster Shiferaw
Alem Shiferaw, age 60, passed away peacefully October 8th, 2019 due to lung cancer but she fought as much as she could. She was born June 25th, of 1949 in Addis Ababa, to Mr. Shiferaw and Ms. Askole. She eloped and married her longtime friend and love, Brook Tesfay, in October 1975.
Alem loved to love on people. She constantly enjoyed going horse back riding and modeling. Her hands were rarely still due to sketching outfits she would wear. She also shared her love with food such as fresh cut fries for her grandsons, lasagna and real fried chicken.
For many years Alem pursed a modeling career in Ethiopia then to New York City. She finally remained in New York City after getting signed by a modeling agency. The modeling career suited her hunger for fashion. She said she did it because of a promise she made her grandma. She used to always say: “Do what’s right and do what’s good. Be kind and help others. The world can always use one more kind person. And if you can take it one step further, please do it for people Grandma’s age.”
Alem is survived by her brother and his wife Mulugeta and Konjit Shiferaw, her sister Meron and her husband Kaleb Eshetu; sister-in-law, Hilina Tesfay; her(Ms. Shiferaw) three sons and their wives Nahom Brook and Gelila Brook, Elias Brook and Rachel Brook, Solomon Brook and Azeb Brook ; grandchildren, Saron Nahom, Mikiyas Nahom, Daniel Elias, Jade Elias, Yaffet Solomon, and Liah Solomon.
