Gloria Vanderbilt was born in New York, New York on February 20, 1924 to parents Reginald and Gloria Vanderbilt. She passed away June 17, 2019 after recently being diagnosed with an advanced form of stomach cancer. Gloria Vanderbilt was preceded in death by her son Carter Vanderbilt Cooper. She is survived by sons Leopold Stanislaus, Christopher Stanislaus and Anderson Cooper. Vanderbilt was interred at the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.

Gloria Vanderbilt is the great-great-granddaughter of railroad magnate Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. The younger Vanderbilt's father, Reginald Claypool Vanderbilt, passed away September 4, 1925. As a result, Gloria Vanderbilt became an heiress to a half-share of a large trust fund before she could even walk.

In the 1970s, Gloria Vanderbilt and partners launched an eponymous line of clothing. The most notable piece in her clothing line was the Gloria Vanderbilt designer blue jeans.
